IMAP email improvements

November 14th 2008 7:31am UTC in Software updates.

The LoHost UK IMAP server has been upgraded with more efficient software. We hope that you'll notice the speed improvement, especially on large mailboxes. It also works much better with certain e-mail clients e.g. Apple Mail.

Please note the following...

  • Folder subscriptions should have carried over, but if you find yours have not, please get in touch.
  • If you get a certificate error, please accept the certificate as it is safe to do so.

Web server updates - PHP4

February 6th 2008 5:48pm UTC in Software updates.

We have upgraded the webservers running PHP4 to 4.4.8. This is a maintenance release to remedy various bugs.

Please be aware that Zend, the makers of PHP are strongly urging web developers to move to PHP 5, having ended new development of PHP4 since December 2007. We second this, and provide PHP 5 by default for new web hosting accounts.

That said, the various differences in operation between PHP4 and 5 e.g. object copy vs reference, etc will cause problems for legacy sites until they are brought up to date. Therefore we will continue to provide PHP 4 as an option for as long as it is safe to do so.

Web server updates

November 12th 2007 4:20pm UTC in Software updates.

Our UK and US web servers running PHP5 have been successfully upgraded to version 5.2.5. The update resolves a number of security and bug fix issues.

Scam domain renewal notices

July 29th 2004 2:27pm UTC in Domain names.

Many domain owners have received a professionally made letter in the post from Domain Registry Services, claiming domains are due for renewal at a cost of £60.00. Please be aware that it is a trick to transfer your domain name with a company who is not responsible for it's renewal, at a much higher renewal fee. If you receive this letter, please let us know. headed "Domain Expiration Notice".
